Hello, My name is Erik W. Shaffer, and this is the story of Advanced Wildlife Control, LLC. In the summer of 1998, while working for the Dep't of Environmental Protection, I was introduced to a relatively new State program called the Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator. It was a program designed to take the burden of handling nuisance animal complaints off the conservation officers so they could strictly concentrate on enforcing game laws. The responsibility was shifted into the private sector, where companies like mine new handle most of the state's problem animal calls. I took the training course, got licensed, purchased a truck, cage traps, ladders, some books and started up a part-time business with one small yellow page ad and no experience whatsoever. That was the beginning. In 1993, in response to an increased demand for my services, I quit my full time job as a chemist and made my company a full-time operation. I now advertise all over Litchfield County and Western Hartford County and receive hundreds of calls a month from clients with nuisance animal control needs. I respond to all of the nuisance complaints myself. I don't employ any technicians. Getting personally involved with my customer's problem is part of my commitment to service. When you hire Advanced Wildlife Control, you will always get me. I like it that way, and I'm sure you will too. Just as electricians and plumbers are licensed professionals in their fields, N.W.C.O.'s are the professionals of the wildlife control industry. In 2006 I became Nationally recognized as a Certified Wildlife Control Professional, or C.W.C.P., which is the highest standard that can be acheived in our industry. This certification was reached through accumulated hours of continuing education credits, years of in the field experience and agreeing to abide by a set code of conduct and moral and ethical standards as set by the National NWCO Assoc. governing board. All of this was done to create a higher level of confidence for my customers. As of this entry, I am the only C.W.C.P. in all of Litchfield County, something that sets my business apart. I am a founding member of the CT NWCO Assoc. and the National NWCO Assoc., as well as a supporting member of Bat Conservation International and the Sharon chapter of the National Audubon Society. I am a member of the Better Business Bureau and the Northwest CT Chamber of Commerce. In 2001, Bat Conservation International acknowledged my company by giving me their certification as a Bat Exclusion Professional for my humane bat control techniques. This is a distinction that very few in my field can say they have attained, and again, I am the only NWCO in Litchfield County cerfified by B.C.I. Finally, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with a minor in Chemistry. I've been married to my wife Krista for 13 years, and have 2 beautiful children, Sydney age 8 and David age 5. We live in the small town of Colebrook, CT where I also serve as the president of the Colebrook School P.T.O. and am a member of the Lions Club. |
