Regarding the attic squirrels. They are not up there by accident. A squirrel which was born in an attic will
amost always come back to an attic to rear it's own young. Attics offer the female both warmth and protection for her babies. Her nest is made with insulation, leaves and fur from her body. Just before she
is ready to give birth, she will evict all of her previous years young from the house, to ready it for a new litter. In March she will give birth to 4-6 babies, which grow fast. After about 4 weeks, they will start to make a lot of noise and do a lot of damage as they run around the attic and chew and urinate on
everything. This is the time of year I get most of my squirrel calls. They will also begin to explore up on the roof outside the entrance hole. This is the best time of year to have them removed. They will continue to use the attic until early summer.
Gray squirrels are very destructive animals. If you wouldn't tolerate rats in your house, why
would you allow squirrels to live thereNote: no space for the text!
Evidence of squirrel damage:
  1. Chewing on the louvers, fascia, soffits and siding to gain entry.
  2. The plastic insulation may be chewed off power wires, alarm and phone lines.
  3. They urinate and deficate all over insulation, your belongings creating a terrible odor.
  4. They will bring fleas and mites into the house.
  5. The potential for a fire that may not be covered by insurance due to rodents.

Red Squirrels, like their gray cousins are primarily active during the daytime hours and they sleep at
night. They are very territorial, and noisy in defending their turf. They like the chipmunks are known
to enter the house from the ground level, through openings in the foundation or under the siding. Locating their entry points can be difficult, and also more difficult to repair. They are normally found in areas where there is an abundance of pine trees, as a good part of their diet consists of pine cone seeds.
Red squirrels chew a smaller 2 inch hole in the house, and they can sometimes be active later into the evening hours. There can be anywhere from 1 to 14 in a house at any time which makes their trapping more costly and unpredictable.
I set my squirrel traps as close to the entry hole or acess point as possible to increase the odds that I am catching
only the squirrels that are in your house. And I never set just one trap. I like to set as many traps as I can to speed up the process. It's called gang setting. I use only high quality commercially manufactured baits for the nuisance wildlife control industry.
